Artist Statement
This piece is supposed to be a memento for my childhood back home. My dad created this "secret" room for my brother and me. It was located under the stairs in our basement. I remember the distinct tile floor pattern and bright white walls taking over so I used the paint to recreate these elements. Since the "secret" room had a door that blended in with the walls around it, I made a subtle door outline by making the gray lines thicker to represent this. This was a very special place for me that brings back a lot of good memories. It is now used for storage so it is nice that I was able to create something that keeps the memory of it alive.
