Title Shattered Heart
Dimensions 18 in (L) X 12 in (H)
Materials scarlet ink, plastic grocery bags, clear plastic wrap, thick white foam board, cloth string

Artist Statement
This is supposed to represent the difficulty that I went through this semester. I have had a lot of emotional experiences the past couple months. The cut up pieces of the plastic represent my heart not feeling whole. I used the plastic bag as my main material because of how fragile it is. It can easily be broken. The little box in the middle represents the little part of my that is still going strong. It is the focal point of the piece. It shows a heart beat made with string and ink. I cut up a regular bag to make it fit me like a shirt which makes sense because everything is supposed to be based around my chest/heart. I included the jeans to go along with the fact that I walk around every day with this feeling so it basically becomes apart of my outfit all the time. In the photos where I covered up my face with the plastic is supposed to show that these experiences messed with my head as well. The photo where my arms are crossed symbolize the attempt to protect myself from these feelings. The photo with my arms to my side acts as a representation of taking it all in, but trying to stay strong.

Title Stuck In A Square
Dimensions 15.5 in (L) x 15.5 in (W) x 25 in (H)
Materials Cardboard, white gesso, black painters tape, masking tape, white rives paper, white & black ink, brown paper tape

Artist Statement
For this project, I wanted to incorporate elements for the Byzantine and the Classical time period, but not make that totally obvious. I made columns on each corner of the square board. Each of the ones diagonal from each other are leveled the same way. It creates an interesting contrast and once it is hung, a nice slant is shown for the whole piece. The arch-like pieces in the middle of the square board  create a sort of maze when you look at it at eye level. Varying the sizes and heights of them added to the column elements and was a good solution for the space in the middle. Every thing is painted white with gesso and ink, but the bottom side of the board is painted black with ink.  To make the arch-like structures sticking out through the board not so noticeable, I painted those little parts black as well. If you look at the bottom, it has its own appeal, but very understated.

Title The Secret Room
Dimensions 4.9 in (L) x 2.9 in (W) x 3.65 in (H)
Materials Balsa wood, white paint, black paint

Artist Statement
This piece is supposed to be a memento for my childhood back home. My dad created this "secret" room for my brother and me. It was located under the stairs in our basement. I remember the distinct tile floor pattern and bright white walls taking over so I used the paint to recreate these elements. Since the "secret" room had a door that blended in with the walls around it, I made a subtle door outline by making the gray lines thicker to represent this. This was a very special place for me that brings back a lot of good memories. It is now used for storage so it is nice that I was able to create something that keeps the memory of it alive.

3D to 2D Digital Image

Artist Statement
I was playing around with material I was using for my identity project when I made an interesting swirl design with gesso on the plastic grocery bag. I took a picture of it, and then I manipulated it in Photoshop. What I came up with ending looking like what you would see on a kitchen counter top because it looks like granite or marble. This reminded me of something elegant and modern so I decided to make it a background element for an exhibit I made up at the Museum of Modern Art.
